Be wary in the study of spiritual writings and the self-confidence of your intellect. Why does the spiritual master say “ordinary people are ill-equipped in their receiving to comprehend the truth of deeper wisdom?” Here is a perfect example of what could happen if there is an error in editing or the writers slip of the key stroke in the teachings you are reading, it should say “Thou shall not steal,” but if the word not was overlooked and it was printed “Thou shall steal” are you going to blindly accept the mistake of the printers’ errors that may sneak in when you are implicitly trying to follow the teachings? The great ones request us to believe, but they never said “don’t question without reasonable or constructive doubt.” Doubt, Belief, and faith are the root of controversy in all religions.
Don’t believe everything you read. There is some who believe everything they read and a there is a majority of people who are unable to interpret or perceive the truth in the writings of world books and scriptures and cannot assimilate or absorb their spiritual and scientific importance keeping them concealed. In this age of information for only a few dollars you can buy a book on yoga or world scriptures, freely read the endless blogs and teachings on the internet and with little effort they can all be swallowed intellectually.
You can saturate yourself with an interesting huge, marvelous and philosophical knowledge stuffed with high metaphysics. It won’t do you any good; it’s like having a wonderful book about food, the best menu in the world and you starve to death. Gaining knowledge only through the so-called information superhighway of intellectual smartness cuts off the inner pathway to intuition and it will be blocked and shut off by the hand of self-sufficiency.
There are just two methods of understanding truth. There is intuition or intelligence. In basing truth one can be misled using the intellectual method relying on one’s intelligence because our senses of perception are limited. The appearance of truth may be realized by one’s intellect but real truths are only known by heightened intuition developed by meditation. However not so long ago it was quite different, there were only two ways to validate truth in the scriptures, one’s faith and individual experience. Back then when the pundits talked, people with faith always took their word on what they said and what was in their books as something that must be true. Let the people beware as this kind of untested faith can be totally wrong. Nowadays people should test their faith by themselves.
Those seeking the truth should carefully and thoroughly study various beliefs but not haphazardly follow or read spiritual writings from the unproven or untested beginners still in their pajamas blogging out of their mother’s basement. Why do you think the Bhagavad-Gita and Vedas were left unprinted for millenniums to prevent this type of desecration of truth and why is it the masters handed down only from memory the real truths of their writings?
Superficial or shallow reading of spiritual teachings gives only speculative knowledge of the truth. This is why the master tells us to meditate more and read less. The soul knows everything; you should spend more of your time trying to develop yourself spiritually to gain and remember what you have forgotten in the past. The soul does not evolve it must be reawakened to bring all things back to memory which means to contact the super consciousness of the soul through meditation, the missing link between realization and religion.
