The relationship between God and human beings is not a conditional contract between a boss and his employees. It is a relationship of love, and that is where we want to take you today. We, as children of God, have a claim on God as our Father. We do not have to grovel to show our gratefulness to Him for anything He gives. It is natural for a father to look after his child; that is his responsibility.
I don’t know what life is all about, or what may happen to me. I don’t know how this body is sustained, how it digests food, how it maintains its health. Unless I pray to God He might neglect me.” Now that is a very poor way to think of God. It is a sort of barter between God and human beings: “You look after me, Lord, and I will love You.”
Therefore why pray to God for this or that material thing? If you realize your loving Father-child relationship with God, you will receive what you need without asking. Never doubt that. It is because you doubt that you do not receive. Your doubt, your lack of faith, holds you back from entering into God’s freely offered abundance.
You should rather say to Him: “Father, I am Your child You know when I have a pain in this body. You know my every need. Why should I ask for these things?” Didn’t Jesus say, “Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without the sight of your Father.”
The Lord knows every thought moving through etheric space throughout the cosmos. The perception of an ant is only conscious of the little bit of space around it, by comparison, man’s vision is vast. Likewise, man’s perception is infinitesimal compared to God’s conscious awareness of everything in this universe. He doesn’t have to be reminded of your needs; rather you need to remind yourself to reestablish your divine relationship with Him as your loving Father and the Source of all. Teachings of P. Yogananda
