When the two currents come together at the point between the eyebrows they become one. When you meditate do you see any light? Most of us see only darkness, complete darkness, that’s the Kali Yuga state. What does that mean? We all have cosmic light ever present at the point between the eyebrows.
Each time we meditate the master says, “When seeing the light in meditation, beneficial changes are taking place in our brain cells. Even if we do not see that light when we meditate, eventually we will.” To see the light during meditation you must break the connection between the body and the mind. As long as you are conscious of your body you cannot go deep into meditation. You have to have complete forgetfulness of your body and that means a “state of absolute immovability.”
Therefore, how much light you have within you now from meditating will determine which place you are going to go in the astral plane when you leave your body. That is for those who are advancing spiritually, the other ones are going to be asleep in a coma state, a deep sleep and will not know it. Before reincarnating the good souls experience a wonderful revitalizing peace with dream visions of wondrously uplifting experiences. The average soul who does not meditate who is neither evil nor virtuous during his unconscious peaceful sleep has only occasional experiences of astral wakefulness while the virtuous and those who meditated and advanced spiritually enjoy the heavenly astral planets because of their good karma when awakening in the astral world after their death sleep.
You want to meditate but you get so bored with it you quit because you see nothing. Therefore if thine eye be single it shall be full of light; that is Christ Consciousness. When Swami Vivekananda came to see the great Guru Sri Ramakrishna as a young boy he was asked, do you see that light at the point between your eyebrows? Yes master, good it shows you have spent many incarnations in lonely mediation.
Why do most people wonder; why is it they cannot go deep in meditation let alone see any light? As long as you are conscious of your body you cannot. The keeping of the physical body in a prolonged position for long periods of time requires a greater force of the will. The reason is the mind has to be free from the consciousness of the body, by doing so the conscious mind transfers the control of the body from the sub conscious mind and then can withdraw from the physical body without affecting the fixed position of the body in any matter. This is a gradual process but a definite effort has to be made to break this connection between the mind and the body that the body remain in a proper position without any attention of the conscious mind.
First let us take up sensitizing the sight within us. That is, we can see, ordinarily, only very limited in amount, as you know, because the retina will respond to only certain vibrations. We can see that in our daily life. But, no doubt, in God’s Thought is the “perfect retina,” which will respond, not only to solar light, which you see out, and you see tonight, here, and in the daytime, but it will respond to Astral Light. It will respond to the Word of God – the Astral Aspect of it as Light. And what is in that Word of God? God Himself; “…the Word was with God…the Word was God.3”
Now, if you can, through yoga, allow that Astral Light to play upon the Sense of Sight within you with its different functions, it will register more of God’s Presence. Now, as you look out, you are realizing what you see by sight. What goes with it? All thoughts and feelings, and everything from the stimulation, for instance from those flowers. Within yourself, you look, and you’ll find the Great Feeling of love and wonderment as to how they were made, and the Presence of God in those flowers. So you see it is not just sight – seeing the flowers – but the sight stimulates corresponding feelings within us, according to our different temperaments and makeup.
Now, God is Light, and in that Light He manifests. Therefore, if we can focus, as I said a moment ago, this, the Astral Light, we are focusing His Intelligence and His Power within us. That is what we must realize, that the Light, the Astral Light, is just as much a Cosmic Force as Cosmic Wisdom, Cosmic Love, Cosmic Silence, Cosmic Calmness. The Cosmic Light is one of God’s Aspects. So, when you focus that Light upon the retina within you, or upon the Sense of Sight – if you’re not familiar with anatomy, that’s all right – if you focus that Power within you in that Light is God’s Power. That is what sensitizes your retina to manifest the Presence of God within. And so let us realize that now.
Next, when worshiping God with the mind no matter what type of yogi you are will endlessly put you through the experience of duality. As long as you worship God with your ego no matter how advanced our ego is you will experience the duality of cosmic light and darkness, cosmic love and hate, cosmic beauty and ugliness, cosmic joy and sorrow, cosmic wisdom and ignorance, but there is a certain kind of yoga devoid of these dualities and that is cosmic bliss. If one can make the effort to anchor oneself in that which is changeless one may obtain that cosmic bliss which is nothing else but one’s own soul divine nature where we can experience all these states of God without duality.
Be anchored in that what is changeless, that is the bliss of the soul. Only when you are in the state of total bliss have you attained your true nature which is undifferentiated. You do not experience any more duality and yet in bliss you have beauty, peace, joy, love, wisdom, sound, light and intelligence without opposites. Do you want to learn to love God? First feel bliss, then when you are stoned out of your mind with bliss you will automatically be able to love. Once you are full of bliss everything becomes beautiful that’s why millions of people are trying to recapture that bliss by getting stoned through drugs. People don’t take morphine, cocaine or marijuana just to smoke, they want to feel that deep peace and bliss within themselves and in the process they destroy themselves.
That bliss can only be obtained through meditation. That is why people follow Patanjali’s eight-fold path and today we find all kinds of teachers coming from India who want to bypass this eight-fold path saying it’s not necessary. There is no way you can bypass this system. The first aspect of this path is Yama Niyama or dharma or in adharma the laws of harmony and the moral rules of life. The master tells us there are those who suggest in the practice of meditation or other spiritual techniques one may circumvent the moral struggle and simply pass over ones lower nature and pass into a higher state. This cannot be so because all spiritual techniques require the effort of conscious will or the excretion of mind power.
So long as our minds are tossed about at the mercy of strong body attachments and slavery to baser passions one cannot concentrate deeply enough to pass the ordinary awareness into the natural joy of the soul, that is not until you have got control of your sub consciousness mind being so purified and reinforced by ceaselessly impregnating your daily mind with positive thoughts. All your negative ideas spring forth from your sub consciousness mind. The moment you are in a negative state say to yourself “the sub consciousness mind is now trying to control me with negative ideas.” If you can control those negative ideas you are on the way to control the sub consciousness mind. Therefore Yama Niyama consists of removing all negative attributes in life, everything which is destructive; the master doesn’t make it simple, he says anything which stands between your soul and God is evil.
All emotional and mental disturbance must be eliminated. Not until you have obtained ajana which can be translated wrongly just as a physical posture no, there are two aspects; the first aspect of ajana means that you have now attained the state of absolute immovability in your meditation. Why should you remain absolutely still in meditation? So that gradually the conscious mind transfers to the sub conscious mind the role of taking care of the body so that you can gradually get out of the human body. The second aspect is ajana for the mind. Patanjali says “no assault from the pairs of opposites” as you begin to have a inner physical equilibrium it begins to affect your mind. The more balance you have with your body even in the way you walk. The master says to sit down or walk with a bent spine is spiritual suicide.
During meditation you must break the connection between the body and the mind. As long as you are conscious of your body you cannot go deep enough into meditation. You have to have complete forgetfulness of your body and that means a “state of absolute immovability.” As long as you move even once, like to scratch yourself, you have broken that magnetic field and you have to start over again at that point to gain depth in meditation. Sri Daya Mata says if you cannot sit still in meditation then you have not even jumped the first hurdle in your spiritual development.
Do you know what the gateway to heaven is? It is the dormant power of concentration within you. There are caves of power that lie entrenched and unexplored right inside you, what if you could be trained to knowingly be in command to use the powers within you, you can accomplish much more than you ever thought possible. Therefore the gateway to heaven is concentration. Until you have constructed a sanctuary of silence within yourself and broken down the walls with which your environment has surrounded you, you will never unearth the gateway to power. You may shed some light on your insight of concentration by reading books on the topic, but the study of books will not provide you with the power to concentrate. Our development comes from personal experience.
A small number of people understand completely the meaning of concentration; still less men and women actually know how to concentrate. The true meaning of concentration is to collect all of your attention at one point, but if your mind is distracted how can you concentrate? How can you concentrate if your attention is spread over a large area which diminishes its power, but becomes strong when focused on one object. Aim the rays of the sun through a sizeable lens to concentrate to a fine point, heat is created of such strength that it will burn most anything in its path. Likewise, unleashing the full power of concentration by scientific techniques, the causes of failures will similarly burn up. A lack of concentration is the root cause of most disappointments in the lives of people.
Spiritual Concentration
To those who want to advance to the inner circle and learn the techniques of concentration and actually get a response from God must learn how to attain concentration and then put it into practice to gain its remarkable power. The inner circle consists of those who are constantly steadfast and try day after day, week after week, month after month and year after year to expand their minds and consciousness and will discipline themselves. Not only is there a spiritual inner circle there is a spiritual hierarchy that govern and protect this planet. It was the hierarchy of spiritual avatars who so befogged the mind of Hitler and his minions during WWII with their invisible forces that he mistakenly chose to attack and invade Russia instead of conquering drained and weakened England from terrible losses at Dunkirk. For those of you in `Rio Linda` spiritual avatars are not the one’s portrayed by Hollywood. When you want to learn about medicine or science you need a creditable teacher. When you are in the forest of spirituality or theology you must have a proper guide to understand the mysteries of God and the science of yoga meditation
Impressive men and women put forth a good deal of time to go deeply inside themselves to find the true answers to meet their troubles head-on with the right solutions. To be like them you have to be able to put your entire mind on one object at a time. Then and only then when your attention is absolutely free from thoughts and sensations you are able to focus at one thing at a time. When you focus on God alone that is called meditation. That should be the true goal but to advance in meditation you must go deeply inside yourself; detach your attention from your five senses of touch, sound, smell, taste and sight that stimulate and stir up thoughts which are your greatest enemies. Most people have no idea how to get into a state of silence let alone a state of absolute immovability. One must have complete forgetfulness of the body to go deep into meditation. Remember as long as you are conscious of your body and you move around, you can break the magnetic field and may have to start over to gain depth.
The spiritual masters tell us it is possible to get a real response from the Infinite and formless God. The master explains that God is spirit and will not usually talk in words but manifests His awareness as divine perceptions through the comprehensible vibratory sounds of Om or Aum and comprehended only by devotees with heightened concentration in deep meditation along with a steady increase of deep peace which is more restful than sleep. This experience of inner calmness transforms itself into a feeling of joy that percolates up your spine. Those who reach this level may call themselves “Sat-Chit-Ananda” by definition means ever blissfully conscious of your eternal existence. This is what real God communion is.
You may think to yourself “why is it so difficult?” The master explains to the student or disciple God will not manifest in any way unless you are totally free from the swarms of restless thoughts that streams into your consciousness. Your inattention indicates the worldly thoughts have not been removed from your mind. He will not respond and why should He if your mind is elsewhere. The master describes God as the duel God whom the Romans called the jealous God of two faces connected with doors and gates. A perfect explanation is His light is similar to a candle flame that can not tolerate the wind of restlessness. Free yourself from any uneasiness and his flame will blaze steadily in the sanctuary of your meditation. You have to be mentally alert with heart-felt sincerity when offering devotion to the Divine to get a response.
Next is the cultivation of concentration upon your spiritual eye. Your eyes must be turned upward to the center of your eyebrows. The moment your eyes go down you can fall asleep and lean forward like many do when concentration is not locked up at the point between the eyebrows. One of the true signs of advancement is seeing cosmic light and that light is right between the eyebrows and if it turns opal blue with a gold ring you are seeing Christ Consciousness. If you see that light in meditation beneficial changes will take place in your mind. When advanced enough upon penetrating that light you may see the five pointed star. However to enter the star in the spiritual eye one must have mastered the breathless state of yoga by learning the techniques of Kriya Yoga.
To learn Kriya Yoga you may read the book titled “Autobiography of a Yogi” by Paramahansa Yogananda, a spiritual classic that explains the actual meditation technique and is freely given by the Self-Realization Fellowship in Los Angeles California or the Yogoda Satsanga Society of India.
Most people who start meditating in the beginning only see complete darkness and get so bored they quit because they see nothing, feel nothing and hear nothing and are reluctant to make the required spiritual effort in the struggle to sit and meditate keeping themselves identified with the demands and comfort of the body when attached to everything.
Remember the words of the prophets “The harvest is plenteous, but the laborers are few.” What does that mean? The laboring devotee must grow spiritually on the soil of his meditative life. Very few people will live a disciplined life without interruption and meditate for the rewards of God-contact in this short season of life. If this is you, you must reconsider your values and realize you did not come into this world to lose yourself but to find your true self and not by blind beliefs nor an undeserved heavenly visitation or by hoping to be in His presence by the merit of death can the Lord of the harvest be attained. At the end of life the material man discovers he is without God-realization as well as the riches of worldly life that he sought after to protect and defend.
There are universal laws we are supposed to learn from our parents, but most fathers and mothers unfortunately do not know spiritual laws and we certainly won’t learn them at school. How are we supposed to be spiritually educated? We must become our own psychologist, psychiatrist, lawyer, and own doctor to understand these laws. We are warned by the masters if we violate universal or cosmic laws, we bring undue suffering on ourselves from the law of karma or from what is called by the masters the “unseen controllers” that record all of our actions twenty four hours a day. There is nowhere we can flee to escape our actions and man would do well by bringing himself in accord with universal laws.
Did you know in early times the sages of old threatened dire punishment to whip dark minds about universal laws. They had to use threatening words to make the people change. Unfortunately fear was the only way dark minds could be moved. As we look at those dark minds who lived in the past with total dismay, future civilizations will look at us in the same way. How could we with all of our intelligence have existed in such an uncivilized and primitive way. From the teachings of PY.
