When in trouble, some automatically pray to an unknown God and expect relief. If he is freed from this trouble, even incidentally, he thinks his prayers were answered and heard and responded to by God. However should his prayer request remain ungranted, he becomes confused and begins to lose faith in God.
A vagrant panhandler went to the richest house he could find. He went through the front gate and strangely there were no guards on duty to stop him. He advanced to the front door and pounded on it until someone answered. A voice rang out “what do you want?” the transient pleaded to the voice “will you give alms to a poor homeless son?” The Lord of this house is generous you will receive what you asked for “a beggar’s share of alms. Here is your alms now leave this house.”
What is a prayer but a demand of the soul, so when a beggar asks for alms he receives his beggars share? But when the rich son appears and pounds on the door he can ask and receive anything he wants from his rich Father. What is in your consciousness? Never behave like a beggar as a beggar receives only a beggars share. On the other hand the consciousness of the rich son allows him to ask and receive great wealth.
Yogananda says “the beggar affirms; I lived in thoughts of poverty and wrongly fancied I was poor, so I was poor, but the rich son affirms now I am home Thy consciousness Hath made me wealthy made me rich, I have everything even as Thou dost.” The Lord created us in His image; He never made us beggars so don’t behave like one when you pray. The master explains to us there is a difference in the wording you should use when you pray. Since prayer is the demand of the soul you can use the word demand instead of the word pray which is connected to a medieval and primitive conception of a dictator or Ruler-Lord where we have to plead on our knees with flattery as in ordinary prayer. The concept to supplicate and sweet-talk in prayer should be thrown out with the bath water.
As you pray, demand as a divine son or daughter talking to a parent asking for what is duly yours as a divine child as your birthright. When done with conviction see what happens then when you pray correctly and to the point? If your prayers have gone unanswered you have chosen to pray like a beggar, however, prayers connected to material gain are limited; they have to be because God will not mend or break his laws to satisfy mundane or fanciful desires or agree to bartered deals. If your goals are financial they have to be earned. Never be lazy for a weak man plans many rewarding things but by the end of the day he finds he has been a victim of circumstances and blames everybody else instead of his bad habits for not following through with his plans. In reading between the lines you can keep in your consciousness that few know how to reach and touch the Lord with their prayers. If you continuously call on Him and pray until the cows come home He will not escape your soul calls.
There is a scientific method or shortcut to prayer, it’s simple, and that is devotion. When you pray, pray from your heart and imagine your heart is talking to God. Praying from your mind is not heartfelt; you are doing a little better than wasting your time. Your mind is similar to a radio transmitter and if the antenna of your mind is not strong enough you’re broadcasting frequency will never reach God. The heart is different because the heart has no limitations. If your microphone has been muffled due to the boisterous passions of restlessness, deep silence will repair your broadcasting instrument and you will see the wonder of telepathy’s loving prayer. Remember God is not is some distant point of space. He is here behind everything you see. He is not someone you must fear, or pray and talk to in stilted tones, or be formal and dignified before. He is the simplest and sweetest to speak to.
The Best Course Of Action In Praying When You Have Done Poisonous Things
The best course of action is neither in begging for amnesty or favors from bad results, nor in being fatalistic and sitting empty or ineffectual, inviting cause and effect to take its course. What we have done by ourselves can also be undone by ourselves. There are proper antidotes for our venomous actions.
Remember negative thinking is the same as worrying. When you worry you are slowly killing yourself and it’s your funeral all arranged by yourself. Why die and suffer daily from worry? Why be buried alive by your anxieties? Whatever you are experiencing in life, sorrow, ill health or poverty, someone else on this planet is suffering a thousand times more than you. Just give your worries to God and do not think yourself so ill-fated that you destroy yourself and block out the great light of God that is always trying to help you! Which shall it be victory or defeat?

Go into a mediation posture and with eyes turned upward at the point between the eyebrows and with all your spiritual concentration focus the meaning of your prayer demand until it saturates your being becoming a part of you. This is not five minutes or your money back but must be done with great fervor over and over again. As your prayer meditation becomes deeper your devotion must be increased as your own hearts outpouring and that it is being felt by God.
The Surest Way To Have Your Prayers Denied?
It is your “needs” vs your “wants.” When your needs are few your wants can be limitless. Learn to differentiate between the two. Remember the more you find yourself depending on conditions that are outside yourself for your own happiness the less happiness you will have.
